Fire during welding work

The main process of the accident:

When welder A was welding a workpiece in the spray paint room, welding sparks flew onto a nearby wooden board with a thick film of paint, causing it to catch fire. The workers on the scene were all panicked. Some used brooms to smother the fire, and some used compressed air to blow the fire, which eventually caused the fire to spread. After half an hour of rescue work by the fire brigade, the fire was finally extinguished. Although no one was injured, serious property damage was caused.

The main causes of the accident:

(1) Before welding in the fire-prohibited area, the worker did not obtain a fire permit and carried out the fire operation without authorization, violating the operating procedures.

(2) The worker carried out the fire operation without removing the paint film in the room and taking any fire prevention measures.

(3) The worker used an improper fire extinguishing method and mistakenly used compressed air to blow the fire, which not only extinguished the fire but also fueled the fire, causing the accident to expand.

Accident prevention measures:

(1) Open fire operations are not allowed in the spray paint room. If welding is necessary, the hot work approval system should be implemented;

(2) All combustible materials should be removed;

(3) Sand, foam or carbon dioxide fire extinguishers should be available in the paint room.
