Welding tragedy occurs

Welding accidents are tragic events that can lead to severe injuries or even fatalities, primarily stemming from the complex and hazardous nature of the welding process.

On this day, a young female welder in a shipyard was welding in the cabin. Due to the high temperature and poor ventilation in the cabin, she was sweating a lot, and her canvas work clothes and leather gloves were soaked. When she was changing the welding rod, she touched the mouth of the welding clamp, and she fell backward due to spasm. The welding clamp fell on her neck and could not be freed, causing electric shock. After the accident, she died after rescue failed.
2. Analysis of the main causes
(1) The no-load voltage of the welding machine was higher than the safe voltage
(2) The temperature in the cabin was high and the welder was sweating a lot. The human body resistance decreased, and the risk of electric shock increased.
(3) After the electric shock, it was not discovered in time, and the current passed through the human body for a long time, causing serious damage to important organs such as the heart and lungs, so rescue was ineffective.

Immediate recognition and efficient procedural responses could have vastly improved her chances of survival. This tragic incident highlights not only the dangers associated with welding but also the essential need for safety protocols and preventive measures in the workplace.
