Blind welding causes explosion

1. Accident Process
In a cold-rolled steel mill machine shop, the planer team leader used a cutting torch to cut the sealed oil tank (volume 0.8m3) in order to use the abandoned old oil tank to hold gasoline, causing the remaining oil in the tank to burn and explode, causing him to be burned. The burn area reached 99%, of which the depth reached 50%. He died after rescue efforts failed.

2. Analysis of the main causes

(1) He was not a welder and blindly started a fire, which was an illegal operation.
(2) The oil tank must be thoroughly cleaned before starting a fire.
(3) The hole cover of the oil tank should be opened after cleaning.
