What is carbon arc gouging?

Carbon arc gouging is a metalworking process that uses a carbon rod as an electrode to melt metal through a high-temperature electric arc, and then uses compressed air to blow away the molten slag. It is mainly used for cleaning metal welds, repairing defects, and beveling.

Working Principle

Carbon arc gouging uses an electric arc generated between the carbon rod and the workpiece to locally heat the metal to a molten state. Simultaneously, compressed air (usually at a pressure of 0.5–0.7 MPa) blows away the molten metal, thus creating grooves on the metal surface.

Main Features
High efficiency and flexibility: Production efficiency is approximately 4 times higher than pneumatic gouging, and it allows for all-position operation.

Wide applicability: Suitable not only for ferrous metals but also for cast iron, stainless steel, and copper.

Operating Requirements: Attention must be paid to smoke, dust pollution, and arc light hazards; operation must be carried out in a well-ventilated area.
