What is TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding?

TIG welding (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding) is a high-precision arc welding process that uses a non-consumable tungsten electrode and an inert gas (such as argon) to protect the molten pool. Its core characteristics include:

Non-consumable electrode: Tungsten electrodes have a high melting point, generating only arc heat without melting; filler metal needs to be added separately.
Inert gas protection: Argon isolates the weld from air, preventing oxidation and ensuring weld quality.
Current type: Direct current (DC) is used for most metals, with the electrode connected to the negative terminal (DC positive), concentrating heat on the workpiece. Alternating current (AC) is used for aluminum and can remove surface oxide films.

TIG welding is widely used in aerospace, chemical, and precision instrument industries, and is especially suitable for thin plates such as stainless steel and aluminum, as well as high-requirement welding scenarios.
