Uses: molten gold contains 25Cr-20Ni, mostly used for welding 310S stainless steel than KMS, 309 is more suitable for dissimilar metal welding and welding of high self-hardening alloy steel and high carbon steel

ER312

Uses: For welding of dissimilar steels, the crack sensitivity is low, so it is difficult to weld or prone to pores when welding steel such as cladding steel and stainless steel lining.

ER316

Comply with GB/T HOCr19Ni12Mo2. For welding of 18Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo (SUS316) steel, the arc is stable and the weld bead is beautiful.

ER316L

Uses: Welding 18Cr-12Ni-Mo2 ultra-low carbon stainless steel, with good welding process and excellent intergranular corrosion resistance.

ER316Lsi.

ER347

Uses: Due to the addition of Nb and other alloying elements, the intergranular corrosion resistance of the weld bead is enhanced, and it has excellent high temperature strength, especially suitable for welding heat-resistant steel

Uses: Suitable for 22Cr-9Ni-Mo3 duplex stainless steel, such as UNS31803 (904L)

Stainless Steel Welding Electrode FAQ

Which stainless steel electrode grade should I choose?

Match the base metal first: E308 for 304, E316 for 316 and 316L, E309 for joining stainless to carbon steel, and E312 where high strength and crack resistance on dissimilar joints matter more than matching composition.

What current do stainless electrodes use?

AC or DC electrode positive. Stainless electrodes are run on the positive polarity because it gives a stable arc and good penetration, and the current should be kept low to avoid overheating the chrome in the deposit.

Why does stainless steel distort so much?

Low thermal conductivity means heat stays local and the expansion has nowhere to go. Low current, short arcs, balanced sequence and back stepping are the standard controls, rather than trying to weld faster.

What sizes and packing are supplied?

2.5mm at 300 or 350mm, 3.2mm at 350mm, 4.0mm at 400mm and 5.0mm at 450mm. Packed 2.5kg per box at 20kg per carton of eight boxes for 2.5mm, and 5kg per box at 20kg per carton of four boxes for the larger sizes.

Do stainless electrodes need special storage?

They should stay dry like any covered electrode, but they are less sensitive to hydrogen than a basic low hydrogen type. The real risks are moisture pickup causing porosity and contamination of the coating by carbon steel dust.
